6 September - 25 October 2014
finissage and booksigning by Marie-Jeanne on Sunday 26 October from 2 - 5 PM
On the occasion of the publication of her new book: "Verborgen Schoonheid - de huizen Van Brienen, Van Loon en Willet-Holthuysen" (Hidden Beauty - the houses Van Brienen, Van Loon and Willet-Holthuysen).
A few years ago, Marie-Jeanne van Hövell tot Westerflier surprised us with her timeless photography in the series "Amsterdamse Wintergezichten" (Amsterdam in Winter). For her latest work, she remained in the old center of Amsterdam and we now present "Hidden Beauty, the houses Van Brienen, Van Loon and Willet-Holthuysen."
In these monumental canal houses she has been wandering around with her analogue Hasselblad camera for many, many days, looking for all the beautiful places and spaces to capture in their full grandeur and detail.
In this way she was able to capture the special atmosphere of these wonderful museum houses, their beauty and atmosphere of stillness solidified in time. Five well known Dutch authors have been inspired by this series and they each created an appropriate story for the book.
Our show gives an overview of this new work by Marie-Jeanne, who printed most of the images herself in her own darkroom. Only the large format prints were outsourced and equally well and lovingly produced.
We are very pleased that the official opening on Saturday 6 September, 4.30 PM, will be done by Toer van Schayk (choreographer of the Dutch National Ballet, dancer, sculptor and set designer).
