19 March - 21 June 2015 in The Museum of the Canals in Amsterdam - now extended until 19 July!
“From the real stairs to the represented one — from an everyday place to a deeper meaning”. The Museum of the Canals presents Stunning Staircases, the new exhibition by Italian photographer, Silvio Zangarini. This photographic series of nine works, showcases the rarely-seen interiors of Amsterdam’s buildings. In a startling exploration of perspective, this exhibition reveals a new side to the city’s architectural and artistic culture —the staircase. By combining traditional and modern photographic techniques, Zangarini creates a collage of different points of view that allows him to go far beyond the technical boundaries of the camera.
Zangarini captures the essence of Amsterdam in his own unique way, allowing us a glimpse beyond the famous facades and into the public and private spaces within. With his camera as a guide, Zangarini leads us on an eclectic tour of some of Amsterdam’s most beautiful and renowned buildings. From the late baroque White House to the modernist Diamond Cutters Union Building, Amsterdam’s greatest staircases are brought to vivid life. The Stunning Staircases exhibition stirs the architect in everyone; each photographic artwork is also a celebration of Amsterdam’s many different architectural styles over the last four hundred years.
