Rohn Meijer - Fashionistas!

Rohn Meijer - Dreamgirls - Stefanel a.w.1990 Carla Bruni_100x100 - web

"Fashionistas!" will show the work of the Dutch-American fashion photographer Rohn Meijer. This is the first time that his photos are exhibited in The Netherlands.
Backstage portraits of famous models like Carla Bruni, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Marpessa and Claudia Schiffer will be joined by exciting portraits of young male models.
You can see this fabulous show from 26 June until 31 July in our gallery.

We've made a selection of more then 30 photographs from 4 series. In 'Dreamgirls' Rohn Meijer shows us portraits of well known supermodels. 'Naked Chair' is an intriguing combination of a model with a chair, inspired by the light of Caravaggio. In 'Methamorphosis' old negatives are used to create an entire new image. Especially for this show, Rohn Meijers shows 10 new photos from the 'Angels' series (2010/2011). These backstage portraits of young -mostly male- models are made during the shows of the international renowned fashion designer Neil Barrett.

Rohn Meijer was born in Amsterdam and emigrated with his parents to the United States when he was six years old. He returned to Amsterdam when he was 22, studied ceramics at the Rietveld Academy and then went to Italy. There he worked as a designer of industrial ceramics. After returning to Amsterdam he fell in love with photography and fashion. This combination evolved into a passion and when he returned to Milan in 1984 he soon was able to work for Moschino and Versace. Ever since, he loves to make backstage portraits and keeps on doing so. In 2009 he photographed the Male summer campagne for Dsquared. His work is exhibited in Europe and the United States and has been published in many magazines and photobooks.

Rohn Meijer will be present at the opening.
